BERITAKOTAONLINE.COM – Chairman of the DPW AGPAII South Sulawesi Muhammad Ikhsan attended an invitation from one of the United Nations (UN) Agencies, namely the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in collaboration with PPIM UIN Jakarta to attend the “Regional workshop on Religious Education and Prevention of Violent Extremism in Diverse Societies in Southeast Asia: Lessons Learned and Best Practices ”at Ayana Midplaza Hotel Jakarta, Indonesia 21-23 November 2018.
This workshop was attended by Southeast Asian countries: Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Myanmar.
The Chairman of DPW AGPAII South Sulawesi responded positively to this activity, “The participation of the Indonesian Islamic Education Teachers Association (AGPAII) in this workshop is proof of recognition of the existence of AGPAII nationally and internationally as an organization that has a strategic role in the development of education in Indonesia, especially religious education in schools in countering radical understanding, “said Ikhsan.
This activity was attended by 300 participants consisting of governments, academics, researchers, and practitioners from Southeast Asian countries who will discuss the implementation of research results related to radicalism and religious education as well as the development of moderate religious education in the Southeast Asian region for millennial generations in the industrial era. 4.0. This activity was opened by the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia Lukman Hakim Saifuddin who was represented by Prof. Oman Fathurrahman.
In his speech, the Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia said “Religious Education in Southeast Asia must prioritize the values of peace and tolerance which are applied moderately in diverse global life in stemming radicalism and extremism”. Meanwhile, according to the chairman of the DPW AGPAII South Sulawesi, “this meeting is very helpful for practitioners of Islamic religious education and especially for AGPAII to serve as material for evaluating the implementation of Islamic education in schools and can be used as input to determine the vision and mission and development of AGPAII in the future”, Cetus Muhammad Ikhsan.
“This activity can add experience and insight globally related to the application of religious education in counteracting radical understanding within educational institutions because it is participated by the government, academics, researchers, practitioners of religious education, Educational NGOs and the media in Southeast Asia”, continued Ikhsan who is also the representative of the Secretary-General. DPP AGPAII.
This activity will last for three days, 21-23 November 2018, and the material will be delivered directly and parallel by international experts, academics and researchers. This activity was also attended by the Chairman of the DPP AGPAII Mahnan Marbawi, MA, and 8 heads of the Regional Executive Board of the Indonesian Islamic Education Teachers Association (DPW AGPAII), namely the DPW West Java, East Java, West Sumatra, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Jambi, North Maluku, and Banten. *)
