Jakarta, PPIM – Gema Perdamaian Community called on young generation to actively take parts in distributing contents of peace in social media.

“Most of the young people have their mobile phones with them every day and have media social accounts. They should use their devices in positive ways to speak up for peace,” said I Kadek Adnyana, the head and initiator of Gema Perdamaian Community, on Friday (13/11) in a virtual seminar series of #ModerasiBeragama (Religious Moderation) themed “Youth Activists for Peace Talking about Religious Moderation”.

The seminar was organized by the Center for the Study of Islam and Society (PPIM) of the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta through Convey Indonesia program.

A native Balinese, Kadek said that most of the young people in Bali joined art groups and spent their time for arts, such as dancing, painting, playing gamelan, and so on.

“They use their potential for positive activities, so they have no time for extremist thinking,” said the man who graduated from Master of Management, the University of Udayana.

His community often organized events related to “peace”, like making short films, organizing essay writing competitions and speeches on peace, and other related activities that could boost the spirit of the young people to make breakthroughs for peace.

“With the creativity, they could find ways to fight for peace, instead of being involved in crimes. We aim for making peace in Bali and across Indonesia,” Kadek said.

At the end of the session, Kadek hoped that young people could join organizations that could help spread peace, not the ones that adopted extremism. He also added that parents played significant roles in altering their children to choose which organizations that could be places for them to develop their ability whilst becoming the places for self -introspection.

The virtual seminar on Religious Moderation is held every Friday via “Convey Indonesia” official Youtube channel. The discussion, moderated by Convey Indonesian Team Leader Jamhari Makruf, also presented two other speakers, Shintya Rahmi Utami, General Manager of Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Indonesia, and Redy Saputro, Coordinator of Peace Leader Indonesia.
